Recovery Systems

parachuteRocket Lab has extensive experience in the development of recovery systems, each with their specific performance requirements. The Company has developed a number of systems and has built a large database of heritage designs. In house developed and verified prediction codes enable Rocket Lab to quickly model new systems and combing this with the experience of over a hundred successful deployments ensures ad robust system.

Rocket lab specializes in recovery systems for difficult environments including:

  • Emergency Deployment (Rapid Forced Inflation)
  • Highly stable platforms for on-board imagery sensors.
  • High Mach number deployments

Rocket Lab also designs and manufactures parachute control devices such as Line Cutters and Spreader Guns. The company operates a fully instrumented drop test vehicle that can be configured for a number of research and testing requirements.

Rocket Assisted Parachute Extraction Systems

Rocket Lab has developed rapid parachute extraction systems for manned applications. The emergency system is aimed at rapidly extracting and inflating a parachute in situations of zero airspeed and extremely low altitude from static devices such as helicopters and jetpacks.

Separation Systems

Rocket Lab has successfully developed a low-cost, low-shock stage separation system (LCLS). The LCLS separates within 90 milliseconds and provides a stable platform post-separation. It is unique in that it does not use pyrotechnic charges, offering significant advantages for sensitive payloads.

Rocket Lab has also successfully tested prototype separation systems that offer clean, rapid separation of rigidly connected stage components through pyrotechnic separation. Rocket Lab can provide anything from an off-the-shelf solution adapted from our existing designs to a comprehensive custom design.
