Sounding Rocket Avionics Flight Computer (SRA)

The SRA unit is high performance miniature flight computer for use on sounding rockets and high velocity vehicles. The computer is highly configurable to mission requirements and additional modules can be integrated to meet extended mission and payload needs. Fully customisable firmware ensures maximum freedom for application development.

The SRA unit has early flight history on small sounding rockets including Rocket Lab's Ātea-1.

Power Supply

  • 9600 baud RS232 output only port for sending data to payload
  • Auxiliary SPI port for future expansion
  • Auxiliary I2C port for future expansion
  • 4 High power switched outputs at 7.4V, current limited at 3A nominal, 7A peak
  • 3 Low power digital I/O ports at 3.3V with capacity to add 5 additional
  • Micro SD memory card mounted in locking socket for extended data logging

Analog Circuits

  • Analog power and ground planes are separated for reduced noise
  • High accuracy 16 channel 16-bit analog to digital converter with pin compatible 24-bit version as a possible replacement
  • Analog temperature reading

  • 6 Spare analog channels available for external sensors

Telemetry

  • Onboard 2.4Ghz wireless module for close range (100m) communication with computer
  • Variable baud rate RS232 serial port for data transfer to communication module
  • Iridium modem (9601) short burst for standard telemetry
  • Options for traditional RF telemetry

Inertial Sensors

  • 50G X, Y and Z axis accelerometers
  • Dual sensitivity Z axis gyroscope with 2000°/s full scale range 0.5mV/°/s sensitivity and 440°/s full scale range 2.27mV/°/s sensitivity.
  • Dual sensitivity X and Y axis gyroscope with 500°/s full scale range 2.0mV/°/s sensitivity and 110°/s full scale range 9.1mV/°/s sensitivity

Note: Both gyroscopes are interchangeable with pin compatible 67° full scale sensors depending on application. Low power 3-axis Magnetometer

GPS

  • Onboard low power GPS engine for recovery
  • Upgradeable to High Missile Dynamics GPS engine
