Capabilities
Due to Rocket labs isolation from larger markets the company has been forced to develop a diverse capability spanning over a wide range of areas and disciplines This has resulted in the establishment of significant infrastructure capability and resources enabling Rocket Lab to become a one-stop-shop for all of our customers space and defense needs. Rocket lab has invested heavily to develop proprietary technologies and processes that have proven to add significant value to our customers in terms of cost, speed and innovation.
Some of rocket labs core capabilities include:
Testing
Testing is a critical part of any development of new systems and technologies. Rocket lab’s philosophy is to move form the design and analysis phases quickly and obtain real data as soon as possible using as close to flight hardware as possible. The implementation of concurrent engineering processes enable testing teams to feed back into the deign and analysis teams in real time to not only rapidly and reliably develop systems but also build libraries of knowledge and experience.
Modeling
The use of complex modeling techniques allow rocket lab to build virtual models to simulate performance and outcomes. The knowledge catalogued over the years enable our analysts to resolve problems providing not only answers but solutions. Modeling is done through a variety of commercial codes as well as a number of rocket lab propriety codes developed and validate by half a decade of testing.
Manufacturing
Rocket Lab operates a manufacturing facility to support its development programs and customer products. The facility includes a machine shop outfitted with the latest of CNC equipment along side traditional machine tools. Keeping most of the manufacturing in house allows for rapid turn around time and the ability for any manufacturing issues to be raised and resolved concurrently.
Composites
Rocket lab has a strong composite background and skill base. It is the material and method of choice for the company when developing products and technology. Extensive use of composites from nose cones to nozzles is typical within Rocket Lab and carful design enables significant mass savings. The company has developed its own proprietary composite materials including HI-NOZ and manufactures both ablative and structural components for a wide variety of customers. Rocket lab continues to push the boundaries of the material by developing liner-less pressure vessels for storage of oxidizers both cryogenic and gaseous.
